The FCC appointed members to the ninth Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council. The recently reestablished federal advisory committee will focus on how artificial intelligence and machine learning can enhance the security, reliability, and integrity of communications networks in a nondiscriminatory, transparent, and socially responsible manner. This CSRIC will also develop recommendations on forward-looking issues involving the security and reliability risks unique to emerging 6G networks and ensuring consumer access to 911 as technology evolves.
The co-chairs of the new CSRIC will be Billy Bob Brown Jr. of CISA and Todd Piett of Motorola. Employees of the following telecom organizations have been appointed as council members: AT&T (NYSE: T); Charter Communications (NASDAQ: CHTR); Cox Communications, Inc. (NYSE: COX); Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC); Lumen Technologies (NYSE: LUMN); NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association; NCTA – The Internet & Television Association; NTIA; Rural Wireless Association, Inc.; Telecommunications Industry Association; UScellular; and USTelecom – The Broadband Association.
The new CSRIC will include a range of participants selected to effectively address issues. The Commission is now seeking nominations to serve on CSRIC’s working groups.
“Through CSRIC, the FCC is bringing together expertise from our federal partners, the public safety community, industry, and other stakeholders to help us tackle the complex communications network security and reliability challenges of tomorrow and set a path for continued innovation,” said Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel. “I am pleased that CISA’s Billy Bob Brown Jr. will once again co-chair this meaningful public-private partnership and welcome Todd Piett to the role of co-chair. Thank you to all the members of this diverse and knowledgeable group for agreeing to serve. I look forward to your findings.”
CSRIC is chartered for two-year terms and provides recommendations to the Commission to improve the security, reliability, and interoperability of the nation’s communications systems. The first meeting of CSRIC IX will be on June 28.
