According to Bedford Regional Water Authority’s Phil Alexander, hundreds of people in Virginia’s Lake Vista neighborhood are without water. As WSET-TV reports, a subcontractor working for Comcast to install fiber optic cable hit a water main when the sub started digging. Apparently excavation in Lake Vista is a dicey business with recent projects disrupting gas, irrigation, internet, and power lines before this latest water pipe breakage, notes WSET.
“I’m hoping it will stop happening,” said local resident John Bryant. “I hope everything gets sorted out super quick because this isn’t okay. It’s awful,” he added, “We had to use bottled water to cook our dinner. It’s pretty terrible.”
Crews were dispatched to address the problem, which has left approximately 250 households without water. Alexander spoke on behalf of the Water Authority, noting that he expected the repair to take several hours. WSET-TV indicated it would continue to look into the current incident and whether or not there were any connections between the series of severed service lines.
