Having already established their corporate headquarters in Virginia, FirstNet (First Responders Network Authority) has leased 28,000 square feet in Boulder, Colorado for their technical headquarters. FirstNet will be building a nationwide LTE network for use by public safety personnel. Roughly 100 FirstNet employees will work at the Boulder facility to design and engineer the nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN). Boulder is already home to the Commerce Department’s laboratories, which includes the Public Safety Communications Research program (PSCR). They’ve conducted significant research into first-responder communications that play a large role in FirstNet’s plans. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration, who oversees Firstnet, have jointly developed PSCR along with the National Institute of Standards and Technology. According to Jeff Bratcher, operations & technical manager for PSCR and acting deputy CTO for FirstNet, said that the first employees for the Boulder location should be hired by the end of March.
