With hopes of conducting a true in-flight experience later this year, GoGo Business Aviation has been putting its 5G software through rigorous flight simulator training. The engineering team has been emulating the radio channel in the airborne environment, reports Inflight-Online.com. They are aiming to achieve a 90 percent or better confidence level for the Gogo 5G software. So far they have said that the extensive technology testing of the end-to-end 5G system has put Gogo ahead of schedule as the software continues to mature with each test flight.
“The virtual flight simulator our team has constructed is an example of what we do best: innovate,” stated Gogo President and COO, Sergio Aguirre. “Our teams have designed a phenomenal method for validating and maturing our 5G software and hardware to a critical degree before the final 5G chip is in our hands.”
As Gogo continues to gather feedback on the 5G interactions with doppler, altitude, flight routes, angle of approach, beam-forming technology and other parameters, the virtual testing moves Gogo closer to actual flight testing. When it reaches this phase, Gogo has indicated that it will be using the company’s Challenger 300 testbed along with the Gogo 5G network. No firm dates for this transition have been announced yet.
