Starlink competitor, AST SpaceMobile (NASDAQ: ASTS), has provided additional insights into its upcoming satellite-to-cellular service, which will soon be available to AT&T (NYSE: T) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) customers. The service will offer satellite connectivity as a monthly add-on or through a flexible “day pass” option, designed for users who find themselves outside the range of traditional ground-based networks.

According to an updated investor presentation, AST SpaceMobile’s service will notify customers when they enter areas with no cellular coverage. At that point, users will receive a text message offering the option to activate AST SpaceMobile satellite service. By opting in, customers can connect their phones to AST SpaceMobile’s orbiting satellites, which function like cell towers in space.

Once connected, users will be able to send text messages, make video calls, and browse the internet at speeds of 20 Mbps or higher, even in remote areas with no terrestrial cellular coverage. This new service aims to extend connectivity to areas traditionally considered dead zones, providing a solution for seamless communication in otherwise unreachable locations, according to AST SpaceMobile.
