Last week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Bangladesh and Huawei. As the Daily Observer reports, the MOU will allow parties to work together to construct the first telecommunications tower made of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics in Bangladesh. EDOTCO Bangladesh will oversee the construction of the new cell tower.
“Our collaboration represents a remarkable opportunity to enhance Bangladesh’s thriving telecom infrastructure and play an instrumental role in realizing our sustainability vision,” stated Sunil Issac, Country Managing Director of EDOTCO Bangladesh. “We are optimistic that this partnership with Huawei will encourage others to come forward and collectively contribute more to the country’s industry growth.”
“The collaboration between EDOTCO and Huawei signifies our collective commitment as global innovators to be a major contributor towards Bangladesh monumental growth,” agreed Hu Yue, Vice President, Carrier Network Business Group, Huawei South Asia. “This partnership enhances site facility availability and is set to bring positive change in the tower infrastructure industry. With Huawei’s pioneering solutions and EDOTCOs expertise, we are committed to set an example in our journey towards sustainability through innovation.”
When completed, the innovative cell tower is expected to be 44 percent lighter than a traditional cell tower. In a county where rooftops host many cell tower units, the partners foresee construction for the new design leading to an improvement in efficiency of approximately 75 percent. Because the structures are made of fiberglass, they should be able to withstand high voltage and do not reflect radio waves. Choosing fiberglass also means that there will be no need to paint the towers, according to the Daily Observer.
