Huawei announced it has begun to deploy its third-generation 5G Massive MIMO solution in the Philippines. The 3.5 GHz MetaAAUs solution is designed to improve download and upload speeds by 35 percent and expand the coverage radius by 30 percent for consumers in the Philippines. According to Huawei, more users can access 5G networks, with average traffic increasing by 37 percent.
“Ultra-wideband, multi-antenna, and extremely large antenna arrays are important innovations for improving coverage and reducing energy consumption,” said Yang Chaobin, President of Huawei’s Wireless Solutions. “We believe that continuously improving the utilization of air interface resources will be conducive to the sustainable development of the communications industry in the Philippines.”
The country is not new to 5G, having deployed the service commercially three years ago, reaching 90 percent of the population in the National Capital Region. Since 5G was first launched, the Philippines has continued to build networks and deploy Massive MIMO products to quickly deliver a continuous 5G experience while meeting the growing 4G capacity demands.
One challenge the country faces is considerable inter-site distances. According to Huawei, its third-generation 5G RAN series, with the 3.5 GHz MetaAAU, can address this issue and meet network development requirements.
