The Point Pleasant Beach, NJ Borough Council will hold a special meeting to discuss the placement of small cells, today, Friday, August 2. Patch reported that the meeting date falls one day after the borough mandated removal of five partially constructed 5G small cells being installed by Munisite.

According to Mayor Douglas Vitale, Munisite was instructed on July 8, to remove the small cells due to a lack of communication regarding the towers’ aesthetics. He added that the company received approval in October 2023 to install small cells in eight sites throughout the borough; however, due to permit delays, construction began in April 2024.

Vitale said, “We were provided details and design specs, but the council did not see renderings of how the towers would look. We had no idea what they were putting in the ground was an eyesore.” He explained that removing the current poles is temporary because the “installation of 5G infrastructure within the borough is inevitable under federal law.”
