Several industry associations congratulated Anna Gomez, Brendan Carr and Geoffrey Starks on their FCC nominations passage out of the Senate Commerce Committee to the full Senate.
NATE: The Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association, encouraged the Senate “to act quickly to confirm all three nominees,” said NATE President/CEO Todd Schlekeway. “Having a full slate of five Commissioners and a continuity of the agency’s leadership is crucial given the myriad of broadband, wireless infrastructure, permitting, spectrum and workforce development issues currently confronting the industry,” added Schlekeway.
“Commissioners Starks and Carr have distinguished themselves in their service at the FCC, understanding the issues affecting competitive wireless carriers, particularly those serving smaller communities and rural parts of America,” said Competitive Carriers Association President/CEO Tim Donovan. “Anna Gomez brings significant public policy experience and service to a critical role. CCA urges the Senate to confirm these appointees as soon as possible, and our members look forward to working with them to pursue policies that promote and bring wireless connectivity to all Americans.”
The Wireless Internet Service Providers Association said the vote, “brings the FCC one step closer to ‘full power,’ with all five Commissioners on board. When that occurs, the Commission will have a tremendous opportunity to quickly identify and then roll out more spectrum for commercial use. American consumers have a near ceaseless demand for licensed, licensed-by-rule and unlicensed spectrum to power their fixed and mobile devices.”
“As we work to bridge the digital divide and advance and sustain broadband access for all Americans, we look forward to working with Ms. Gomez and continuing to work with Commissioners Starks and Carr,” said Shirley Bloomfield, CEO of NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association. “We urge the full Senate to approve their nominations so that the FCC can build upon its work ensuring all Americans receive robust and affordable broadband service.”
Fiber Broadband Association President/CEO Gary Bolton urged the Senate to swiftly confirm the nominees. “The U.S. remains in the midst of an enormous investment cycle to bring high performance broadband service, especially fiber connectivity, to every household, business, and anchor institution, as well as to support 5G/6G, smart cities and grids, and other advanced technologies and applications. To help make that happen, we need a five-member FCC composed of expert and thoughtful leaders. The pending nominees certainly meet those high standards.”
