Some members of the Kendall Federation of Homeowner Associations have complained to their governing board about small cell poles that have been appearing in their South Florida community. They blame the county, reports WSVN-TV, for installing the improved connectivity with little advance notice. Homeowners say they have been told there is little they can do about the small cell deployment as current state laws favor the telecoms over the property owners.
“It’s an extremely attractive state law for the company that’s putting these up because, again, there’s very little jurisdiction,” said Silvia Morales Gutierrez, a resident in the Glen Cove community.
Some HOA members said that they were in the process of contacting state legislators to attempt to change the laws regarding 5G small cell pole placements. The residents expressed their worries about diminishing property values and phantom health concerns. The cell tower equipment was also described as visually unappealing.
“The community has screamed out to us about these towers that keep popping up in their communities and coming soon to where I live in Calusa,” Kendall Federation of Homeowner Associations President Michael Rosenberg told WSVN-TV. “I may walk out one morning and, boom, there’s this 60-foot tower in front of my house.”
Although it does not appear that a telecommunications representative attended the most recent HOA meeting, prior interactions with the residents indicate that they have been informed that the small cell poles are necessary for public safety and improved connectivity.
