Kiri Wilson had been working as an electrician in the oil and gas industry when her father, who worked in the renewables industry, suggested she make a change due to a drop in the market. On dad’s advice, Kiri enrolled in a tower tech training program at Airstreams Renewables, a company that specializes in training active duty military personnel across the country preparing them for careers in the wind energy and telecommunications tower industries.
She was ready for the change and up for the challenge in a male-dominated industry. In doing so, she felt she could empower other women to “dig deep” and develop the skills needed to succeed as a tower tech. “There is something alluring about challenging myself,” she said “to watch myself mature and grow into someone prosperous.”
After graduating from the training program in 2015, Kiri became the first female technician for EU Montage, a Dutch energy company. She said a job climbing towers may not be for every woman but, like any job, it you are committed to succeeding, anything is possible.
“Failure will never overtake me,” she said “if my determination to succeed is strong enough! Everyday wake up, thank God, and tell yourself this.”
