LA County Supervisors Stop Network Construction

On a motion by Mayor Michael D. Antonovich, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to end the immediate network construction of antenna sites proposed as part of a dedicated emergency communication system in Los Angeles County, California. The reasons for halting the project were health risks to firefighters and local residents, community concerns, and a lack of transparency. The Mayor called for a legislative effort to extend the grant deadline so adequate notification can be made to local communities, and to ensure employees and residents are safe from health risks. The motion calls for the Board to send a letter to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce and Congressional representatives to extend the grant deadline of September 30, 2015.
