The bell tower at the La Jolla Presbyterian Church in La Jolla, CA has rung up some opposition, according to the La Jolla Light. Last week, the town’s Planned District Ordinance Committee announced that DISH Wireless Network would be installing antennas inside the bell tower at 7715 Draper Ave. The committee said the equipment would be screened to hide its appearance and be made to blend with the church’s architecture. The installment would comply with height and setback requirements required by code and not result in any height enlargements of the steeple.
Because of the church’s own nursery school facilities and proximity to a nearby recreation center, local parents expressed concern about the possibility of exposure to electromagnetic fields.
One resident told the La Jolla Light, “I understand La Jolla is a pretty affluent community, but not everyone has a big yard … and they need a place where they can send their kids to play. They shouldn’t have to think about possible dangers of new technologies. We were informed that the antenna is a 5G facility … and the FCC regulations are based on information from 1996.”
DISH Network did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation on whether the tower would be emitting 5G frequencies.
