As fiber optic installations expand across Laredo, TX, the City Council is moving to strengthen accountability for contractors and subcontractors who damage private property, according to the Laredo Morning Times. The discussion led by Planning and Zoning Director Vanessa Guerra and City Engineer Ramon Chavez aims to tighten regulations and ensure residents are protected.
Councilmember Tyler King is pushing for maximum penalties under Texas law, up to $4,000, for violations. “These companies need to take us and our residents’ property seriously,” King said, adding that stronger enforcement and quicker city responses are essential.
Residents are encouraged to report damage through the city’s 311 line before escalating concerns to City Hall. The Council plans to explore tougher ordinances and proactive measures to minimize future issues.
