While Lawrence Behr started LBA Group, Inc. in 1963, he got his start in the tower industry long before then when he took an interest in radio broadcasting. After spending time in Cuba during 1956 and becoming buds with the commander of a Cuban Navy electronics group, Behr couldn’t get enough of the radio world and all things RF. At age 14 he became the youngest person ever to hold the highest level license the Federal Communications Commission offered for broadcast engineers, the First Class Radio Telephone Operator’s license. Behr’s first big break came at age 15 when East Carolina University in Greenville, NC hired him to be the chief engineer at WWWS, the University’s new 24-hour FM radio station. Since his big break, Behr has transformed from a kid interested in radio to the CEO of his own RF consulting and maintenance firm in North Carolina. Lawrence’s story is extremely interesting as he reminisces about the early days of the telecommunications industry. You can read the full article here on the company’s blog.
