The Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau of the FCC, in coordination with FEMA and the Infrastructure Security Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, activated the Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS) in response to communications impacted by Hurricane Idalia. DIRS is a voluntary, web-based system that communications providers, including wireless, wireline, broadcast, cable, Voice over Internet Protocol providers, and satellite providers can use to report communications infrastructure status during emergencies.
For Hurricane Idalia, the Commission asks communications providers to submit and update information through DIRS regarding the status of their equipment, restoration efforts and power (such as whether they’re using commercial or backup power.) Reports are requested by 9 a.m. EDT beginning today.
Counties of interest in Florida include: Alachua, Baker, Bay, Bradford, Calhoun, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Franklin, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Gulf, Hamilton, Hardee, Hernando, Hillsborough, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Lee, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Madison, Manatee, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, Sumter, Suwannee, Taylor, Union, Volusia, and Wakulla.
The FCC continues to monitor this event and may amend the DIRS activation area in the coming days.
