A dramatic rescue operation unfolded in the south Twin Cities metro area on Thursday, when a man climbed to the top of a 250-foot radio tower. Authorities described the man as being in a “crisis” when he scaled the Salem Media Group tower near Cliff Road in Eagan, MN. The incident prompted an extensive response from emergency services, including the Dakota County Special Operations Team (DC-SOT), which deployed a “high angle rope rescue” to bring the man down safely.

Photos released by the Eagan Police Department show an officer from the DC-SOT ascending the tower to reach the 51-year-old man from Moorhead. The rescue was successful, and the man was brought down without further incident. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital where he was treated for cold exposure.

Eagan Police Sgt. Rich Evans noted that despite the circumstances, the man is expected to face charges for trespassing. His identity has not been released by authorities, according to the Star-Tribune.
