The Marina City Council in California acknowledges that they need better connectivity. As KION-TV reports, legislators and residents have been talking through ideas for achieving better digital reception in a way that is most acceptable to the community. A cell tower would address the coverage issue, but figuring out where to place it has presented a challenge.
“Your decision makers are listening to you,” said Marina City Council Member, Brian McCarthy. “And, you know, I think what we’re hearing is that we want a more robust cell coverage network, but we want to do that in a methodical way that benefits everybody. You probably have not driven through Marina on highway one and not had a call drop,” he continued. “This new tower would increase the coverage.”
McCarthy noted that a cell tower application has already been approved by the planning commission with a 3-to-1 vote. The final decision, and location, still needs to be approved by the city council. The proposed location is in a residential section of the city, which would bring connectivity to the population who needs it.
“The only thing we disagree with is its location, right,” real estate agent Viktoria Hill told KION-TV. “So, I’m sure we have a lot of empty land throughout the Marina. And I feel like it should be someplace where it can be better, not being placed in the middle of the residential area.”
