Since 1949, Microlab has been designing and manufacturing RF and Microwave distribution components and systems known worldwide for their superior performance. Microlab products are considered the “gold standard” in the industry, and the company is already contributing to the next generation (5G) of wireless infrastructure, letting their past expertise influence the future of telecommunication. As part of Wireless Telecom Group Inc, Microlab is one of several business segments that support the wireless industry for 4G and 5G, as well as private LTE deployments.

“We have a long history with and experience in RF development of signal distribution components and systems, and we’ve expanded our portfolio to include innovative solutions for today’s world,” said Luke Getto, Director of Product Management at Microlab. “We produce high-quality, reliable products, many of which are manufactured in New Jersey.” According to Getto, the company is sharply focused on wireless network densification, providing solutions for outdoor small cells, and solving in-building signal distribution challenges. Regarding outdoor small cells, Microlab understands the need for aesthetically pleasing products, which both drive deployment approval and create significant challenges for the system designers. Meeting these requirements head-on, Microlab provides small form factor components that give designers more flexibility in their mechanical designs. This allows for better concealment because less space is required for heat dissipation and mechanical support; it also provides more room to add frequency bands or mobile carriers in neutral host deployments.

Indoors, the trend is moving towards a Distributed Radio Access Network (D-RAN) topology that combines the capacity benefits of a small cell network with the low-cost coverage of passive distributed antenna systems (DAS) for in-building solutions. “We understand the importance of providing adequate coverage and capacity to meet end-users’ needs, which is why we’re focused on small cells,” said Getto. “At Microlab, we’re providing cost-effective solutions to enable more small cells to be deployed with optimized system performance to maximize capacity and coverage. This includes guaranteed low passive intermodulation (PIM) and low insertion loss for improved signal-to-noise ratios to enable utilization of higher-order modulation technology.”

One of Microlab’s solutions is the MCC Series, a passive Modular Carrier Combiner for neutral host small cell and D-RAN architectures. The MCC Series solution enables Microlab’s customers to add carriers onto their infrastructure as they sign agreements; this prevents the need for deploying infrastructure to cover potential carrier participation upfront, saving time and money. The MCC Series solution makes it easy to upgrade a system and “future-proof” installation, as networks evolve and new licensed, unlicensed and shared bands are introduced. The product is also passively cooled, so no external power or fans are required.

“We also have a line of products designed to thrive in harsh environments, including tunnels with metallic dust, and coastlines with high humidity and heavy salt spray,” added Getto. “The Microlab team is proud to be a piece of the communications infrastructure people use daily. Our team is always striving to bring our customers leading-edge products.” In addition to maintaining an available stock of their most popular products, Microlab works closely with an extensive network of stocking distributors and value-added resellers. This ensures that projects are executed promptly with next day delivery available. Microlab works with customers across several different industries, including:

  • Commercial Wireless: mobile network operators, tower companies, neutral host providers, and systems integrators
  • Public Safety: system integrators and prime contractors for large systems (e.g., subways)
  • Defense: military, government agencies, and defense companies

At Microlab, the commitment to performance, quality, exceptional reliability with timely delivery are key ingredients in establishing and maintaining successful customer relationships. For over 71 years, Microlab has been in Parsippany, NJ producing high-performance passive components such as power combiners, directional couplers, attenuators, loads, and filters.
