Alpha Wireless, an Irish antenna solutions maker, has introduced the Small Cell Fusion platform, which it says is the first 5G small cell antenna that can be mounted mid-pole on existing street infrastructure. In response to the cities’ need to minimize street clutter, the Small Cell Fusion platform was designed as a way to mount and conceal antennas on existing street poles that have been previously off-limits.
“As network operators shift their focus from macro sites to small cells, new tactics are needed to minimize visual impact and simplify RF planning, paving the way to faster permitting and streamlined deployments,” said Fergal Lawlor, CEO, Alpha Wireless.
The Small Cell Fusion antenna combines three modular panels to create a canister shape, combining the “performance and flexibility” of small cell panels with the look of canister antennas. The modular design allows a blend of different panels to be selected based on each cell’s requirements, which enables the carrier to mix and match coverage capabilities for each sector.
The small cell antennas can be mounted on lamp posts, utility poles, existing masts, walls and other vertical structures, enabling multi-operator deployments that blend in with existing infrastructure, which hopefully will meet strict zoning restrictions. Individual sector antennas can also be changed out over time to meet evolving coverage needs.
