NATE: The Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association supports President Trump’s nomination of Howard Lutnick, a Long Island native and co-chair of Trump’s transition team, to serve as the next Secretary of Commerce. Lutnick is well-known for his role as the CEO who rebuilt the Cantor Fitzgerald brokerage firm in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, according to TechPolicy Press. Lutnick’s executive portfolio also includes ventures in real estate and financial technology services.
“Mr. Lutnick brings a wealth of experience as a business leader, understanding the challenges of main street enterprises,” said NATE President/CEO Todd Schlekeway. “Considering the Commerce Department’s role in closing the digital divide, we believe his experience and expertise is perfectly suited for this significant role to unleash next generation connectivity across the U.S. and enable American entrepreneurs to keep our nation the best place for business.”
“Our community is made up of the small businesses working on the front lines of broadband deployment and we look forward to working with the next administration on shared policies that serve to enable connectivity for everyone,” added Schlekeway.
If confirmed, Lutnick will play a key role in the U.S. and China’s race for semiconductor and AI supremacy, according to TechPolicy Press. He will also be responsible for implementing trade restrictions to avoid the transfer of certain technologies, and overseeing various policies regarding AI.
