NATE: The Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association says that Aiden Krutchen, a Senior Civil Engineering major from Newburgh, IN, has been named as the 2025 recipient of the Ernie Jones Memorial Civil Engineering Scholarship at the University of Evansville in Evansville, IN. The official announcement was made at the NATE Awards Luncheon yesterday during the annual NATE UNITE 2025 Conference in Raleigh, NC.
During his time on the University of Evansville campus, Krutchen was the ASCE Student Chapter Vice President and completed internships working for Kaskaskia Engineering Group as a traffic engineering intern during the summer of 2023. He also worked for the Lochmueller Group as a highway design and water resources intern during the summer of 2024. Outside of campus, Krutchen is involved in the leadership of a youth group at a local Evansville church. Upon graduation, he plans to work for Bowen Engineering as a field engineer.
“Aiden excelled in our Steel Design course last year, has set himself apart as a leader of his design project team and has done very well in his other engineering courses,” stated Dr. Megan Voss-Warner, University of Evansville Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering. “We are proud of Aiden, and he is very worthy of the Ernie Jones Memorial Scholarship given his future career opportunity he has lined up in the engineering field,” added Voss-Warner.
Ernie Jones was a structural engineer who worked in the broadcast tower industry for 30 years. During his career, Jones served as a Professional Engineer and President of Consolidated Engineering, Inc. and a Vice-President of Structural Engineering at Electronics Research, Inc. Ernie was also a participating member of the TR-14.7 Committee of the Telecommunications Industry Association and Electronics Industry Association since 1986 where he assisted with writing and approving the ANSI-TIA/EIA 222 standard, which is the American National Standard for Steel Antenna Towers and Antenna Supporting Structures.
The Ernie Jones Memorial Civil Engineering Scholarship awards a $2,500 NATE-funded scholarship annually to a junior or senior level civil engineering student at the University of Evansville’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.
