NATE, the Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association, announced that the application process for the NATE STAR Initiative is open for the 2024-2025 program year. The NATE STAR Initiative is considered the association’s signature program designed to help companies operate safely and recognize Principal Contractor, Subsidiary Contractor, Construction, and Affiliate members who voluntarily adhere to higher safety standards.

This is the only time of the year when new participants are accepted, according to NATE, and current participants must re-apply at this time as well. This year’s program will have new site safety audit questions to reflect the diversity of work currently taking place in the industry and capture more job-specific and relevant data.

“Participating in the NATE STAR Initiative program is an ideal opportunity to fulfill OSHA Requirement 29CFR 1926.20 (b)(2): ‘Such programs shall provide for frequent and regular inspections of the job sites, materials, and equipment to be made by competent persons designated by the employers,’” stated Kathy Stieler, NATE Director of Safety, Health & Compliance.

“The NATE STAR Initiative program is also a tool that can be utilized to fulfill the requirement that is found in many clients’ Master Service Agreements (MSAs) for providing safety audits. Corporate reviews of the safety audits performed are a pro-active approach to help identify common deficiencies and adequacies to provide safety program improvements for your organization. The result is to ensure your company’s safety goals are met,” added Stieler.
