NATE: The Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association has been closely following the forecast surrounding Hurricane Milton and urges everyone located in the path of the storm to remain safe and vigilant. The association issued an advisory bulletin concerning an access letter for NATE member companies working to restore communication networks and infrastructure during and in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.
The Access Coordination Request letter is from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). The CISA letter, effective October 8, 2024, encompasses the communications industry sector and requests that federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial emergency management, and law enforcement officials provide site access, fuel priority and other relief measures for companies to restore vital services and functions deemed essential for public health and safety.
“Previous response operations have shown critical infrastructure owners and operators routinely require area access, communication support, fuel priority, and may also require housing, and regulatory relief to assess damage, perform repairs, or implement mitigation measures necessary to restore services and functions essential for public health and safety,” writes CISA Operators Director James Harrell in the letter. He notes the document “does not direct response operations, nor does it supersede the laws, regulations, guidance, priorities, access control measures, and actions established, by state, and local, tribal, and territorial emergency management and law enforcement officials or other proper authorities.”
NATE encourages all companies working in the impacted regions to provide a copy of the letter to employees and make sure the letter is accessible at all times if needed.
