With a 39-0 unanimous vote, legislators in Nebraska pledged to create a state broadband office. As NTV News reports, the bill, LB 683, was approved by both Democrats and Republicans who all want to continue to improve digital resources for Nebraskans across the state. The parties agreed that establishing a separate office devoted to furthering broadband would help improve digital access for all residents.
The newly created Nebraska Broadband Office will be helmed by a Director appointed by the governor. Going forward, the so far unnamed officer, will set the direction for the continued rollout of broadband outreach. The Director will also be responsible for channeling the funding of various telecommunications projects.Ā
In addition to creating the Nebraska State Broadband Office, LB 683 also stipulates that national security measures must be at the forefront of the state’s digital development. LB 683 seeks to establish a new department for all Nebraskans that is both efficiently managed, and secure.
