New FCC Chief Economist Hails from Pepperdine University

The FCC has a new chief economist. Dr. Babette Boliek comes to the agency from the Pepperdine University School of Law where she’s the associate dean of faculty research and a law professor. The chief economist typically serves a one-year term. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said Boliek will be a central figure in the agency’s new Office of Economics and Analytics.

Dr. Boliek’s research at Pepperdine focuses on applied economic and legal analysis in the areas of internet regulation, competition and antitrust, privacy, and the mobile telecommunications industry. Her teaching responsibilities have included antitrust law and policy, communications law, corporations, and contract law.

Outgoing Chief Economist Dr. Jerry Ellig is returning to academia. Dr. Boliek is expected to begin her D.C. assignment in August.
