New Mexico’s Office of Broadband Access and Expansion (OBAE) will receive nearly $2 million for workforce development. The Los Alamos Daily Post reported that the funds will go towards establishing a broadband workforce development trailer (mobile training facility), curriculum development, and training initiatives across the state.

The $1,993,000 will enable OBAE to enhance its capacity to train and prepare individuals for broadband industry careers while strengthening New Mexico’s digital infrastructure and workforce, according to New Mexico broadband officials. “Investing in broadband workforce development is essential for building a stronger, more resilient New Mexico economy. These funds will enable us to equip our workforce with the skills and training needed to succeed in the digital age,” said Drew Lovelace, Acting Director of OBAE.

The facility is intended to encourage residents throughout the state, including rural and underserved areas, to access broadband education and training. OBAE will also ensure training programs are aligned with industry standards now and in the future, reported the Daily Post. Current professionals will also be able to advance their careers by “upskilling” their knowledge through targeted training and certification programs.
