Nine Temp Towers Make Music Fest a Lollapalooza

A cell tower on wheels and eight other temporary cell towers are converging on Chicago’s Grant Park in anticipation of this year’s Lollapalooza music festival. As Block Club Chicago reports, the event typically attracts upwards of 300,000 visitors over its four day run. With so much connectivity available, concert goers should have no trouble sharing news about their favorite acts. The nine extra towers will also ensure that digital traffic for Chicago residents will keep flowing.

“This temporary infrastructure will allow carriers to improve cell signal and internet connectivity during the event and will be removed from the park within one week after Lolla concludes,” noted Park District spokesperson Michele Lemons. “Installation … has minimal impact on public access to that area. The mobile carrier is responsible for restoring any damages to the park caused by the installation, occupancy or removal of their equipment.”

Kacey Rousey, foreman for Another Level Tower Services, Inc., added, “We’re working around the clock.” Rousey also said that the temporary cell towers will be just as effective as permanent units.

The Lollapalooza festival involves multiple stages spread out across the extensive Grant Park grounds. The source noted that at least six of the towers are being installed by T-Mobile, including the one near the Bud Light Seltzer main stage. Fulton Technologies is working with Another Level Tower to get all the temporary towers in place well before the event’s July 28 kick off date.
