UPDATE First proposed in 2005 to address coverage gaps, the Mahwah, NJ monopine cell tower on Rozanski Lane is now in operation. The tower is located on municipal property at Fire Company 3 and is expected to be a notable communications asset for police, fire, and emergency services personnel, notes NorthJersey.com. Although a group of neighbors fought against the project for years, the need to address the two-mile-wide dead zone eventually carried the day.
One neighbor who was delighted to experience the boost in connectivity enthused, “My reception is so much better. I can’t tell you how happy my family is, and everyone I do business with,” stated Jon Paul Molfetta. “Finally!”
Although the tower was slated to switch on over Independence Day weekend, a technical issue with T-Mobile equipment delayed the process for a week, according to NorthJersey.com. With the issue corrected, the 185-foot cell tower was activated, with all three carriers, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, fully operational.
“It has been this administration’s goal to complete this project for our citizens in the dead zone,” said Township Business Administrator Ben Kezmarsky. “There were many obstacles along the way we’ve had to battle through, and we are very pleased with the ultimate results for our residents and emergency services personnel.”
