North America’s telecom equipment revenue declined in the first half of 2023, which differed from profit increases around the globe. Dell’Oro Group released a report showing that hardware revenues worldwide “held firm” or experienced a modest two percent increase, except for North America.

The report did not disclose specific figures regarding the decline. Still, it noted that “the overseas market remains robust,” with a growth of seven percent in global revenues for telecoms equipment in the first half of the year. The Asia-Pacific region led the pack, with other areas supporting the figures.

Regarding the North American numbers, “The slump…was projected but the pace of the contraction exceeded expectations,” Dell’Oro stated. The following factors impacted the downturn:

  • Slowing investment in 5G
  • Inventory corrections influencing technology sectors
  • Reduced spending on broadband access equipment

As for the leaders in telecom equipment sales, Huawei led with 35-40 percent of global revenues. Nokia came in second place, with Ericsson in third.
