U.K.-based CU Phosco Lighting has introduced a smart pole, dubbed Connected Urban, that is designed to enhance wireless connectivity at street level. The company says that Connected Urban can accommodate both macro- and small cells within a single compact footprint, SmartCitiesWorld reported.
Connected Urban is being marketed as a line of modular and scalable smart poles that can be used for meeting the increasing demand for 4G and 5G network densification. In addition, the poles can accommodate myriad services including compact base station antennas, video surveillance cameras, public address systems, and smart lighting.
“Connected Urban is not just a smart pole; it’s a transformative solution for smart cities. We envision a future where connectivity is seamless, reliable, and caters to the diverse needs of urban environments,” said Keith Henry, Product Manager-Connected Urban and GM, CU Phosco Australia.
The company says that the Connected Urban smart pole will provide municipal authorities and shared infrastructure providers with a platform to deploy their smart city infrastructure. This feature in turn is designed to create revenue opportunities through leasing arrangements with mobile network operators at preferred street-level locations.
