We tend to take internet connectivity for granted, noticing it only when issues arise. The FCC works to keep communication systems reliable, fair, and in the public’s best interest, serving a key role in minimizing these connectivity issues.

Currently the FCC is not operating at full strength. The last open slot for this important agency is set to be filled by Olivia Trusty who was recently nominated by President Trump. Ms. Trusty has proven a commitment to expanding wireless access and has made a positive impact on South Mississippi.

Olivia has been instrumental in conducting Congressional oversight over the wireless industry during her tenure on staff for Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS), serving as an advisor to our Senator on the Senate Commerce Committee and Senate Armed Services Committee.

Through her work, Olivia also served a key role in workforce development here in Mississippi. Specifically, she was instrumental in setting up the wireless training facility at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Long Beach which prepares local technicians for tech careers. Olivia also amplified local voices in Washington, D.C., inviting small Mississippi broadband companies to testify before the Senate Commerce Committee.

I congratulate Olivia Trusty on her nomination to serve as Commissioner at the FCC and look forward to her incorporating her Mississippi experience for all Americans. Her expertise in telecommunications policy, dedication to consumer rights, and promotion of innovation, make her the ideal candidate.
