Ohio residents Bryan S. Goody and Phillip D. Lakes were apprehended by officers from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department after they were seen removing cabling from a cell tower site. As the Observer reports, law enforcement was already on alert after incidents earlier in the month. An estimated $50,000 in damage was incurred when thieves broke into cell tower sites in Westfield and Sherman, NY, and walked off with coaxial cables.
An officer re-visiting the Sherman site saw two individuals returning for second helpings of cabling and arrested Goody and Lakes. The men have been charged with second-degree grand larceny, second- and third-degree criminal mischief and fourth- and fifth-degree conspiracy. Following New York State Bail Reform laws, both Akron, OH natives were released on their own recognizance.
