A lot of people complain that towers on or near their property will drive down their property values, but what happens to your property value if you can’t get a cell signal? Would you rather live in close proximity to a tower and be connected to your family, friends, and emergency personnel or have a scenic view and remain isolated? It’s not entirely accurate that the presence of a cell tower will decrease property values. Tom J. Keith & Associates, Inc. conducted research and illustrated how cell phone towers affect property values and found that the value doesn’t decrease noticeably if you are closer to a tower. In their research, “Impact of Cell Towers on Surrounding Properties,” they noted that property within 1/10 mile of a tower had an average price per square foot of $90.24, whereas property within 2/10 had an average price per square foot of $94.61. Justin Dehnert, Vice President of 1 Source Towers, shared that he’s had people ask him where the nearest cell tower is in relation to a particular piece of property they are considering buying. Cell coverage is important, especially among the younger generations. While some may classify them as an “eyesore,” others find them to be a necessity when choosing their future home.
