Puerto Rico is set to receive $461 million in federal aid to strengthen telecommunications infrastructure and broaden connectivity. The News Journal reported that a $127 million disbursement from the FCC is on the horizon, along with $334 million from the BEAD program.

The FCC funds will bring fixed connectivity to 100 percent of Puerto Rico’s 1.2 million  households, while the BEAD funds will focus on telecom resiliency, including an underground conduit. According to Wanda Pérez, president of the Puerto Rican Telecommunications Alliance, by 2028, 100 percent of the country’s locations will be connected to high-speed internet.
