Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. said it had achieved downlink speeds of 7.5 Gbps with its Snapdragon® X75 5G Modem-RF System, which could be a world record. Commercial devices with the Snapdragon X75 are expected to be released in the second half of 2023.
“Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF System is the smartest wireless modem we have ever created and is designed for the future, with a 5G Advanced ready architecture, made to help operators define the next generation of networks around the world,” said Sunil Patil, Vice President Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
The speed test was conducted on sub-6 GHz spectrum, using a 5G standalone (SA) network configuration. A total of 300 MHz of spectrum was leveraged using 4x carrier aggregation of time division duplex (TDD) channels in one downlink connection. That system also used 1024 quadrature amplitude modulation.
In March 2023, Inside Towers reported that Ericsson achieved a downlink peak rate of nearly 4.4 Gbps, combining one frequency division duplex (FDD) and three TDD channels for a total of 300 MHz of spectrum. The test was carried out using a MediaTek M80 5G modem, Ericsson’s Baseband 6648, TDD Massive MIMO radios AIR3268, AIR3239, and TDD Radio 4426.
