For two years, Foster, RI officials have planned to add a communication tower to the area to help with service, primarily benefiting first responders. Surveyors recently reviewed the chosen location, and residents received letters inviting them to a public meeting to discuss the project, reported WJAR-TV. However, some neighbors are crying foul because they feel the town didn’t provide ample notice regarding their plans.
“We’re mainly upset about the tower location and lack of communication with residents,” said resident Erin Dubi. “All of the sudden in three weeks you learn there’s going to be a 190 foot tower with a blinking red light behind your yard.”
WJAR-TV reported that the tower location was chosen based on topography so that the signals would reach all of Foster. The 190-foot tower will have colocation with multiple antennas.
Some residents are concerned about the tower being an “eyesore,” affecting property values and the environment. The town plans to hear from supporters and opponents during the scheduled meeting on February 21, before moving forward with the project.
