Samsung Electronics (OTCPK: SSNLF) announced a partnership with NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) to advance AI-RAN technologies. Their goal is to promote the seamless adoption of AI into the radio access network by enhancing CPU ecosystems and partnering with GPU companies.

Since early 2024, Samsung has leveraged its AI and radio expertise as a founding member of the AI-RAN Alliance. The companies say they achieved interoperability between Samsung’s O-RAN compliant vRAN and NVIDIA’s accelerated computing. Additionally, Samsung verified how integrating NVIDIA’s computing into software-based networks can enhance AI capabilities.

Samsung plans to deliver AI-RAN by combining its vRAN with NVIDIA’s computing in a COTS server running Samsung’s vRAN software. The companies will also explore AI-RAN options using Samsung vRAN with NVIDIA’s Grace CPU and/or GPU-based AI platform, suitable for various network environments from urban to rural.

“While AI is reshaping the telecommunications landscape, Samsung is helping operators to build the right network architecture and environment where AI can thrive, all powered by our proven and AI-powered vRAN,” comments June Moon, Samsung Electronics EVP & Head of R&D, Networks Business.

“AI-RAN is a critical technology that delivers transformative gains in network utilization, efficiency and performance, while enabling new AI services,” adds Ronnie Vasishta, SVP for Telecom at NVIDIA. He says that Samsung’s vRAN expertise and software integrated with the NVIDIA’s AI accelerated computing will accelerate the path to AI-native wireless networks.
