Sateliot, a satellite-to-5G IoT device connectivity company, is joining a $3.5 million project backed by the European Commission to provide internet access to unserved Europeans. The initiative, known as the ETHER Project, standing roughly for Self-evolving terrestrial, non-terrestrial, hybrid networks, is based on technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
Based in Barcelona, Sateliot is launching a LEO satellite constellation based on the 5G standard, allowing unmodified commercial cellular NB-IoT NTN devices to connect from space. Sateliot said that it will use those satellites that provide the ETHER Project with a base for standardization and interoperability between its network in space and the network in the ground.
ETHER was set up to develop solutions for a Unified Radio Access Network and for the energy-efficient, AI-enabled resource management across the terrestrial, aerial and space domains. ETHER is funded by the European Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking project, a public-private partnership that aims to facilitate and develop industrial leadership in Europe in 5G and 6G networks and services.
