The Senate Commerce Committee postponed a vote for the third time on a measure to re-fund the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and Rip & Replace. The vote, which was to take place yesterday, is now rescheduled for next Tuesday, June 18.
The committee postponed two May markups of S-4207, the Spectrum and National Security Act of 2024, amid opposition from top committee Republicans, according to Communications Daily. They’ve opposed devoting more money to the ACP unless the Commission puts in place fraud guardrails and a better accounting of how the money is spent, Inside Towers reported.
The measure would restore the FCC’s spectrum auction authority through September 30, 2029. It would lend $10 billion of those auction proceeds to the FCC in FY 2024 funding for the expired ACP and fully pay the more than $3 billion shortfall for Rip & Replace.
