The U.S. Senate plans to bring up President Donald Trump’s nomination of Olivia Trusty to the FCC this week, reports Communications Daily. Senate Majority Leader John Thune took a first procedural step Thursday night toward confirming Maryland native Olivia Trusty as a Republican FCC Commissioner.

That would give FCC Chairman Brendan Carr a three-person quorum, enabling him to vote on Commission-level items as well as provide Carr a GOP majority. The agency has had just two Commissioners, Carr and Democrat Anna Gomez, since Commissioners Geoffrey Starks and Nathan Simington left their jobs on June 6.

If things go according to plan, Trusty could be in her new job by next Wednesday, according to Broadband Breakfast. That’s before the FCC’s June 26 monthly meeting. The Senate is not in session this Thursday for the Juneteenth federal holiday or Friday.
