Boasting tech giants such as Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), Seattle has topped the list as the “smartest” city in the U.S., knocking off Austin, according to a study by ProptechOS, a real estate technology company. The organization measures three categories — connectivity and infrastructure, sustainability, and the tech job market — and then averages the scores, it was reported by Newsweek.
While Seattle won overall, Austin still topped the infrastructure category with a download speed of 275.60 Mbps — well above the U.S. average of 217.14 Mbps — and the most artificial intelligence companies per capita.
Following Seattle, Miami was ranked second and Austin fell to third. Rounding out the top ten were San Jose, Oakland, Boston, San Francisco, New York City, Los Angeles, and Atlanta.
“Cities adapting to greener ways of living are set to thrive. U.S. and European cities are leading the way toward a smarter future by evaluating their tech infrastructure and sustainability alongside a tech-driven job market,” Erik Wallin, the founder and chief ecosystem officer at ProptechOS, said in a statement.
The study also ranked the smartest cities in Europe. Paris, which sports 99.9 percent 5G coverage, the second-highest number of AI companies, and the third-highest number of free WiFi hot spots, was named the smartest city in Europe.
