Petzl: Access the Inaccessible

Beginning in the 1950s, Fernand Petzl was already setting records for exploring some of the world’s deepest caves in and around Grenoble, France. So naturally, he began making tools for his friends who were avid cavers and mountain climbers, since these products did not yet exist commercially. It wasn’t until the 1970s that the family-owned company Petzl was founded by his son, Paul. Since then, Petzl has been on a mission to create innovative tools and services that allow men and women to progress, position, and protect themselves in vertical environments, as well as to light their way in the dark.

What makes Petzl’s key products unique to the telecommunications industry? Petzl is focused on all aspects of a climber’s safety from products and solutions to training and education. “We have various solutions specifically designed for the telecommunications industry to assist climbers,” said Michel Goulet, Professional Division Sales Manager at Petzl. “There are many similarities between developing products for caving and telecommunications and we know our products have to be light and effective for workers, whether they’re walking or climbing long distances.”

Petzl is proud to offer several solutions for the telecommunications industry including helmets, harnesses, lanyards and rescue kits.

VERTEX® BEST: this certified helmet has a strong, 4-point chinstrap, and sets the standard in head protection for workers at height. Its unventilated shell protects against electrical hazards and molten metal splash, plus with a brimless feature, it allows for safer sight lines.

VOLT® LT: this lightweight harness has a connection at the front and includes a vest to ensure the harness keeps its shape. The FAST automatic buckles on the waistbelt and leg loops allow the harness to be donned with both feet on the ground.

GRILLON: this adjustable lanyard is used to make work positioning systems and to complement a fall-arrest system. Its length can be very easily and precisely adjusted as necessary for comfortable positioning at the workstation. Depending on the configuration, it can be used in single or double mode.

JAG RESCUE KIT: this ready-to-use reversible rescue kit is designed with a pulley system to allow lowering someone from any tower. It contains a JAG SYSTEM haul kit, a RING OPEN gated ring, an I’D S descender, a CONNEXION FIXE 150 cm anchor strap, a BUCKET bag and an AXIS 11 mm rope with two sewn terminations.

“Where the telecommunications industry is concerned, we’re very focused on developing products that assist rather than encumber the climber,” said Goulet. “The differentiator with many of our products is that they’re lightweight and breathable plus efficient and effective to use. We focus on comfort elements while keeping safety in mind and have been doing so for nearly 40 years.”

Petzl distributes products in 60 countries and has a USA subsidiary based in Salt Lake City, UT. For more information on Petzl or their solutions, visit www.petzl.com/US/en.
