UPDATE The Senate Energy and Commerce Committee Wednesday sent the nomination of Geoffrey Starks as an FCC Commissioner to the full Senate for a vote. Starks is now an associate bureau chief in the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau. It was apparent during his nomination hearing last week, that Committee Chair John Thune (R-SD) intended to move quickly to get the Democratic nominee to the FCC to the full Senate.

Following the committee vote, industry trade groups urged swift Senate confirmation. “Mr. Starks’ experience indicates deep qualifications and a keen understanding of the many issues the FCC will face, including the role wireless infrastructure will play in the rollout of 5G,” stated Wireless Infrastructure Association President/CEO Jonathan Adelstein. “With all of the critical issues related to the deployment of rural broadband, public safety communications and 5G networks, a timely confirmation vote is in order,” stated National Association of Tower Erectors Executive Director Todd Schlekeway.
