Major League Baseball, a game built on a storied history, is making a lot of changes this year shifting gears to keep up the times, most obviously a 15-second pitch clock to keep the game moving, among other enhancements. Additionally, the league has signed a deal with T-Mobile to be its Official Wireless Partner, which promises to kick the league up to 5G speeds using small cell and DAS applications.
T-Mobile is deploying and expanding its 5G network in MLB stadiums, laying the groundwork for future immersive 5G-connected experiences for fans and enhanced connectivity for T-Mobile customers, who will receive free MLB.TV subscriptions via T-Mobile Tuesdays through 2028.
Plus, the MLB will test an automated ball-strike system (ABS) over T-Mobile 5G Private Mobile Networks at select minor league games this season. Real-time ABS data and video will be transmitted securely to help prevent signal interference via devices and the ABS application, using T-Mobile’s 5G network.
“This will help ensure ultra-reliable, low latency communications as players and officials review, challenge and analyze calls,” the carrier said. “As T-Mobile expands its sponsorship to Minor League Baseball, fans can also expect to see magenta in their stadiums across the country this summer.”
T-Mobile will continue its title sponsorship of the T-Mobile Home Run Derby during MLB All-Star Week. It will also partner with MLB Network to bring back the fan-favorite T-Mobile 5G BP show for the T-Mobile Home Run Derby and MLB Postseason.
