Opensignal published its mid-year 5G Experience Report and found that T-Mobile’s established 5G network outperformed Verizon Wireless and AT&T. The carrier took first place regarding users’ average download speed, which reached 171 Mbps. According to the report, T-Mobile’s speeds were more than double compared to Verizon (72.8 Mbps), widely out-pacing AT&T’s speeds (53.6 Mbps average).

Regarding upload speeds, T-Mobile was crowned the champion averaging 17.8 Mbps, but the delta wasn’t as significant as its rivals. Verizon’s average upload speeds clocked in at 14 Mbps and AT&T’s at 10 Mbps.

Opensignal reported that access to 5G again went to T-Mobile. Its customers have availability to 5G 40.6 percent of the time. AT&T 5G availability is 18.7 percent, and Verizon subscribers experienced 10.6 percent availability.

The 5G Experience Report showed that Verizon and AT&T continue to add the C-band spectrum to their networks, with jumps in network speeds already recorded by Opensignal. The independent mobile analytics company noted that the 5G race would likely tighten up as AT&T and Verizon continue to spend “fortunes” acquiring spectrum.
