Promising a “Football Field Makeover,” T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) is sponsoring a contest where small towns will compete for prizes by submitting stories about their high school’s football team spirit, and their needs for new football facilities.

“Ultimately, the school that can break through the noise, best show off its community spirit and passion, and get community members to vote for their school on social media will emerge victorious,” T-Mobile said.

T-Mobile will award a $2 million grand prize to the winner. Additionally, $25,000 will be given to 16 finalists and $5,000 to 300 high schools to support their football programs. The contest is open to high schools in U.S. towns with a population of 150,000 or less.

The contest, called “Friday Night 5G Lights,” is crafted to highlight the investments T-Mobile has made in rural America, adding “nearly 500,000 square miles” of new 5G coverage and hundreds of new stores, according to the carrier. “T-Mobile will transform Friday night lights forever for one deserving small town – just like it’s done for rural wireless service,” the carrier said. “The competition is open to the thousands of small towns across the country that live and breathe high school football.”

T-Mobile’s promotional campaign has signed up four-time Super Bowl champion Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski as its spokesman. “On Friday nights, all the things that divide us go away. On game day, we’re all just one team and one community with a unifying goal to leave everything on the field and be the best we can be,” said Gronkowski. “We need a lot more Friday nights!”

The grand prize includes a $100,000 cash grant, a high tech scoreboard, 5G network upgrades, a tailgate party for the whole community, a 5G-powered halftime drone show and an upgraded weight room from GronkFitness.com, courtesy of Gronkowski.
