Telecom Trade Groups Praise Thune’s Election as Next Senate Majority Leader

UPDATE The Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) congratulated Senator John Thune (R-SD) as the U.S. Senate Majority Leader for the 119th Congress. WIA President/CEO Patrick Halley called Thune “a strong leader who has consistently pursued policies to strengthen the wireless infrastructure and networks that are critical to ensuring America’s global competitiveness, the strength of our economy and public safety services for communities.” 

Halley added that the association looks forward to working with Thune and his staff, “the new Congress and the Trump Administration to enable connectivity everywhere.”

NATE: The Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association is enthusiastic about Thune’s new role. NATE President/CEO Todd Schlekeway called Thune a “champion of the industry.” Schlekeway explained: “On behalf of NATE, we congratulate Senator Thune on his appointment to serve as the next Majority Leader. Personally, I have worked for him and know he is a friend of NATE and have been with him on many site visits. With his experience as the Commerce Committee Chairman, having someone of his caliber will be a benefit not just to NATE members, but to the industry as a whole.”

NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association, also had good wishes for Thune. NTCA CEO Shirley Bloomfield called Thune “a champion of rural broadband policies throughout his tenure in Congress, and he understands the unique and essential role that small, community-based broadband providers play in connecting rural areas—including by serving nearly 90 percent of the geography in his home state of South Dakota.” 

Bloomfield added that NTCA “looks forward to continuing work on our shared mission of building and sustaining critical connections for rural America.”
