SBA Communications’ “Tower U” held its tenth anniversary celebration Thursday at its Pelham, AL, training facility. The cornerstone of SBA’s Safety and Quality programs, Tower U opened its doors on October 23, 2013, in response to the growth of the towerco’s services business and its need to develop highly skilled tower technicians. Focusing on safety, SBA created a multi-level itinerary of programs adhering to “best-in-class” industry standards while providing a comprehensive training experience.
The event was attended by SBA senior executives, industry association executives, and members of the telecom community. Visitors toured the facility to view the field exercises and climbing activities on the training towers both inside the facility and on the grounds. Participants also attended a classroom session to experience tower training firsthand and meet with instructors and tower technicians.
David Sams, Vice President, Risk Management, introduced the program followed by remarks from President and Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Stoops, and his incoming successor, currently serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Brendan Cavanagh.
“Since the start of our company, tower climber safety has always been a key focus of SBA,” said company spokesperson Lynne Hopkins. “We are incredibly proud of our Tower U facility and the impact it has had on the safety training of our tower climbers, fire and rescue departments across the country, and our industry. Our state-of-the-art facility demonstrates our commitment to safety and quality training and continues to incorporate industry practices to achieve the highest level of training.”
