President Donald Trump spoke with several executives from wireless, drone and venture capitalist firms as part of the latest White House Tech Week. Inside Towers reported FCC Chairman Ajit Pai was in meetings related to 5G and IoT. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson and Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure demonstrated 5G and described some of the delays in getting small cell infrastructure sited. After that, Trump suggested that his Chief Economic Adviser Gary Cohn “write a very strong letter of recommendation” to U.S. cities advocating easing permits for mobile cell installations, reported Politico.
In general, Trump said “we’re getting rid of [bad] regulation” on a “daily” basis. Drone company PrecisionHawk CEO Michael Chasen told Trump the UAV sector actually needs more regulation, “because the default is actually limiting what drone technology can do.” He called for the FAA and other agencies to widen the drone playing field.
